NewcastleGraft Podcast no. 4 – PANG!

A two-hander this week, as myself and Topsy discuss some of the various arts events on this week. Then, in a deep and moving epilogue, we discuss the mechanics of podcasting, and if we are getting any better at it – which, ironically, got destroyed in the cruddy editing process that I use. Next episode should see a dramatic improvement in quality as I buy a mike and some editing software. Podcast no. 4 – PANG! This episode runs about half an hour long, and is named in honour of the Whitley Bay rock group, Tygers of Pan Tang. Some of the things we discussed were:

Bulletpoints

Sheesh! You’d think that just having a website was enough. But no, I have to provide interesting content for my loyal readers. Well, if that’s the case, I’m going to do it with Bulletpoints, because they’re cool.

  • I’m thinking of re-organising the site a bit more than it is already. I was hoping to make some more writing out of my fascination with bicycles, but honestly, it’s just not happening.
  • Actually, I’ve been off my bike for a while. My health has been a little shakey after what happened around the turn of the year, but I’m starting to feel a lot better, and I’m looking forward to doing some big rides this year.
  • I’m also getting a studio, which means that I’ll be doing some more creative stuff. In turn, this means I’ll have to talk about my retirement – ha ha, new content!
  • I know Topsy hates it when I just post words up, so here’s some pictures I took recently.
  • Tower OneTower TwoTower Three
  • I meant to give them their own blogpost, but let’s just keep things moving, shall we?
  • I just attended some talks by Hans Abbing, which were totally fascinating. Not only that, but Hans himself was a really nice guy, and I enjoyed getting the chance to hang out with him for a short while. His work on the economy of the arts is something that really inspired me, and still does, and meeting him has encouraged me to do a few small projects of my own.
  • Although my previous writing on universities suggests a pretty dire history, I’ve found out that I might have a chance at attending a new course starting up this year. This solves my confusion about what to do after September if it comes through, but that’s still an ‘if’.

Is that the time? – I’m trying out a new early-rising scheme, so I better jump in bed. This makes a change from most of my life, so it’s a bit weird and I’m still adjusting. Which is why you are not watching a short video about my recent helicopter experiences, or another podcast – just think what you’ve got to look forward to!

First Attempt at a Podcast

This is the first attempt by Brian, Topsy and myself at a podcast – it’s a roughly edited ten-minutes or so of us talking about some of the things that are coming up over the week, some of the things we are doing, and some of the art in the local area.

It’s not going to be here for long, as I’ll be shifting it over to a special NewcastleGraft website in the next week, so don’t link here. Or expect future podcasts to turn up here, unless I become almost completely self-obsessed

Alan’s got a sweet new bike.

My flatmate Alan has been having a rough time with his bicycles recently. After I convinced him that cycling was a good way of getting around, he got his bike stolen. Our friend, Topsy, then lent him a replacement which turned out to be one of Matt Seaton’s bicycle-shaped objects.

But no more! I went down to recyke-yr-bike on Saturday and selected him a bike. It’s a shiny yellow bike, with front suspension, and the best gearset I’ve seen in ages. I always get jealous of people who have steel chainset’s because they look fantastic…

Alan's got a new bike

Mmmm, baby. Alan got me a fantastic christmas present (and card), so I changed his street tyres over to his new bike, which now looks scarily sexy. In fact, I’m pretty jealous of his bike, and considering using it for a few trips along the Tyne.

Of course, that’s all for next year. This Christmas, I’m taking a break from the glowbikes project that I’ve been working with Brian, and I’m not doing any more work until the 28th. The past few weeks have been continual soldering in order to make a large number of SpokePOV‘s, for display on New Years Eve. Until that point… I’m going to eat as much food as possible, open presents, and consume as much coffee as possible.
