I feel like I’ve totally forgotten how to do blog posts. It’s a myriad of confusion for me at the moment – do I post too regularly, and bore people? Should I post my best stuff, so it’s like an online portfolio? Who are these phantom readers anyway? Why is wordpress so hard to use?
It’s all a bit complex. So, the other day, I met up with a friend and went and did some drawing in Hitchin.
These are done in a small sketchbook, using pen and gouache. Gouache is some tricky stuff that I’ve not quite got the hang of, but the black gouache leaves a lovely deep black on the page, softer than ink but much more opaque than possible with watercolour.
The notebook I’m using was from my birthday, when I went on a course with Benjamin Elbel at the London Centre for Book Arts to learn how to do bookbinding. He was a super-patient instructor, which is lucky as I’m a crap student who can barely follow instructions. Lots of people have complimented me on the notebook that we produced, so here’s a picture of it:
