Another swipe from the Alex Loomis book; his style of overly muscular dudes was a great influence on the comic book artists, and he even lays out a “heroic” body format – which is too high and wide to really exist.
This is one of the few drawings ink-based drawings that I would show in public! Most of them are awful, but this one (accidentally) turned out quite well. Phew!
pity you didnt show him from the front Petexx
Looks like Mr Manhattan from the Watchmen.
That’s probably because the figure drawing book I’m working with – “Figure Drawing for All It’s Worth“, by early 20th-century illustrator Alex Loomis – was a major influence on the world of comic-book artists. He was one of the artists working to create that super-muscled look of people, even detailing how to draw people in a different proportion (eight heads high instead of the usual 7ish) so as to make them look “more heroic”.
Man, I am such a nerd about these things. Anyway; thanks!
