During my recent trip to Austria, I’m sure I drove my gracious hosts Pippa and Tim up the wall by obsessing over the Teutonic brand of watercolour paints, Schmincke. To say thanks for putting up with me, and to prove the superiority of the pigments, I sent them this pair of postcards.
Great colors, on the Windsor and Newtons for Blue, Cadmium Red and Mars Black with some calligraphy pens.
They are some nice colours, and they have a wide range, but they aren’t as “powerful” as the colours in the Schmincke range. I think that, in the UK, there is a tradition of using watercolour in washes to create a very subtle effect – something that, perhaps, has affected the way that the actual substances are put together. (Does that makes sense?)
