The Conquest of Mexico

I couldn’t make it through Jodorowsky‘s The Holy Mountain, but I was amazed by this early scene. There is a huge amount of effort and budget gone into this one little section.

Effort and budget pretty much sum up the important ingredients of a film I’d say. Maybe you’d need to add ‘a good idea’ to that mix too. It’s possible to do it without without all 3 of them – It’s surprising how many action films have money but no effort for example – but it rarely makes a satisfying film. It’s nice to see this clip; Jodorowsky certainly has it all. I have to build a small model set for a film I want to make this week, I’m looking forward to it and hoping I have the patience to put in the effort..
